Situated at an altitude of
640 Mt. above sea level, known as the foothills of
Mussorie, Dehra Dun is a paradise in itself. On
the North are Mighty Himalayas and on the south, the not
so old mountains known as the Shivalik Hills. The East

Dehradun has grown into an
attractive tourist destination appreciated as much for
its beautiful setting as for its mild climate and
leisure opportunities. Dehradun, one of the most
important towns of the state of Uttaranchal and serves
as the gateway to Mussoorie. Surrounded by lush green
forests and hills, Dehra Dun has always been a favourite
with the tourists. At a distance of 45 Kms is the sacred
city of Rishikesh and for the adventurous few there are
places like Chakrata, Dhanolti, Surkanda Devi and many

Rishikesh: Rishikesh
is situated amidst a calm environment, impressive water
front, dense forest & hills.Virtually a town of
saints, sages and scholars, Rishikesh is a large
religious centre located on the right bank of river
Ganga. First is the area around the spot where the
famous Lakshman Jhula bridge spans the river, then comes
Muni-ki-Reti ('Sands of the Sages') where the wise spent
time in devotion, meditation and Yoga.
Haridwar: Haridwar is
situated on the right bank of the holy Ganga, and is the
point where the river spreads over the northern plains.
Haridwar is among the seven sacred cities of India. It
is also one of the four venues for the Kumbh Mela, held
in its magnitude every twelve years. Essential a
religious centre which holds promise of salvation for
devotees, Haridwar is also a centre of herbal medicine
and traditional studies at Gurukul Kangri.
Mussoorie: At a stones
throw is nestled the very famous Queen of the hill
station "Mussoorie". The Queen of hills Mussoorie is
just 30 kms from the city. Tourist from all over the
India comes to see the natures paradise. Dehradun has
inflow of tourist throughout the year. Summers are warm
but bearable. In winter one can see the snow covered
mountains of Mussoorie from Dehradun.

Forest Research Institute
: 5 Kms. from Dehra Dun, one of the finest
institutions in the world. the FRI stands in extensive
grounds amongst fine plantations of many species of
forest wealth. The Institute maintains six museums,
covering various disciplines, which are open to public.
The campus where the institute is located is called New
Forest and it also houses the headquarters of Indian
Council of Forestry Research & Education and the
Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy.

Himalayan Geology : The best centre on Himalayan
geology, the Institute maintains a museum displaying the
geological diversity of the

Rajaji National Park:
Rajaji National Park is distinct for its pristine scenic
beauty and rich bio- diversity. A paradise for nature
lovers and wildlife enthusiasts, the wildlife of the
park is blessed with elephants, tigers, leopards, deer
and ghorals as its best known life forms. Three
sancturies in the Western U.P., Shivaliks- Rajaji,
Motichur and Chilla were amalgamated into a large
protected area and named Rajaji National Park in the
year 1983 after the famous freedom fighter Late Sri C.
Rajgopalachari; Popularly known as "Rajaji". This area
is the North Western Limit of Asian
elephants.

Spread over an area of
820.42 sq Kms., Rajaji is a magni- ficient ecosystem
nestled in the Shivalik ranges and the beginning of the
vast Indo – Gangetic plains, thus representing
vegetationof several distinct zones and forest types
like Sal forests, Reverine forests, Board –leaved mixed
forests, Scrubland and grassy. It posses as many as 23
species of mammals and 315 birds species. The abundance
of nature’s bounties heaped in and around this park, are
bound to attract a large number of wildlife
conservationists, nature lovers and eco-friends to visit
this most breathtaking wilderness area.
 Approach & Access for
Rajaji National Park :
  Dehradun Delhi State
Highway:It almost forms the western boundary of
Rajaji Park. Mohand is the important station on this
road where aforest road goes inside the park.
  Dehradun Doiwala,
Rishikesh, Haridwar State Highway: This is the most
convenient road. By this road one can go to the Ramgarh,
Motichur, Kunao and Chilla Forests of Rajaji Park.
  Moradabad, Haridwar State
Highway: This is a connecting road between
Lucknow-Delhi highway and Haridwar. By this road one can
go to the Chilla, Gohri, Ranipur forest and forest areas
adjoining Haridwar of the Rajaji Park. For easy approach
and access, there are several entry gates to the park.
